Sub-programme on Maize-based Cropping System for Food Security in India: 

            A Sub-programme on maize based cropping system for food security in India under GOI-UNDP Food Security programme for a total amount of US $ 8,14,000, being fully funded by UNDP, for implementation in six districts of three States viz: Bihar, Rajasthan & Uttar Pradesh for four years, w.e.f. 1999-2000.  In view of the effective and smooth implementation & achievements under the Sub-programme, the sub-programme was extended for its implementation for two years more along with additional funds of Rs.3,00 lakhs.  The sub-programme has been closed on 3103/2005.  The project’s object was to provide stimulus effect on the AMDP for attaining GOI’s objective of increasing the production & productivity of Maize in the country.  The overall development goal of this sub-programme is poverty alleviation by ensuring availability, accessibility and affordability of balanced food & nutrition for all, thus eliminating malnutrition and under nutrition of poor and marginalised families in the areas covered by the sub-programme.  The major thrust under the programme was  given to address the major constraints in the maize production by making maximum involvement of the farm-women.
