NEW POLICIES/ INITIATIVES FOR AGRICULTURAL MECHANIZATION

1. OUTSOURCING OF TRAINING

To increase the canvas of training for farmers in the area of Agricultural Mechanization, a new initiative of outsourcing of training has been introduced during the Tenth Plan period and this has started from 2004-05. The aim is to train large number of farmers and to provide training facilities at nearby places.

2. PROMOTION OF MECHANIZATION THROUGH MACRO-MANAGEMENT: 

The issue of mechanization was raised in National conference 2004- Rabi Campaign and the Department has now given great emphasis on agricultural mechanization. Proposals for additional amount of Rs.35 crore have been sanctioned under Macro-Management of Agriculture during 2004-05.

3.  EXHAUST EMISSION TEST FACILITY AT CFMTTI, BUDNI:

It has been decided to set up exhaust emission test facility at Budni institute in view of the requirements under Central Motor Vehicle Act 1988 for exhaust emission testing of tractors etc.  Budni institute is also recognized among other Institutes for issuance of CMVR certificates on the above equipment under the central Motor Vehicle Act, 1988.  Therefore the creation of this facility at Budni institute would provide a single window facility for the manufacturers of tractors etc.

4. CONDUCTING STUDY AND FORMULATING LONG-TERM MECHANIZATION STRATEGIES FOR  EACH AGRO-CLIMATIC ZONE:

This Study was awarded to the Indian Agricultural Statistics Research Institute of ICAR at a total cost Rs.  130.00 lakh.  The draft Study Report is now available. On the basis of the findings and recommendations in the Report, Government will formulate suitable strategies and programmes for the promotion of Agricultural Mechanisation.
